The History of the BIKINI

The History of the Bikini...
Contrary to popular belief the Bikini was actually an ancient invention 2 piece garments were worn by woman for athletic purposes as early as 14ooBC.
The Modern Bikini was introduced by frenchman Louis Reard and seperately by fashion designer Jaques Heim in Paris in 1946. Reard was a car engineer who was by this time running his mother's lingerie boutique near Les Folies Bergere. Heim was at this time working on "The world's smallest bathing suit". Reard sliced off the up to navel waistband and advertised this as "Smaller than the world's smallest bikini". The idea came to him after seeing woman roll up their swim suits to get a better tan.
Bikini's were banned from worldwide beauty pageants after the first Miss World Contest in London in 1951.
Playboy first featured a Bikini on it's cover in 1962, followed by Sports Illustrated 2 years later.
These days the Bikini is worn by millions of woman and girls at beaches all around the world, from every colour, design, fabric they are the beach must have and we don't see this changing any day soon unless the one piece makes a come back.... This is the world of fashion and so anything is possible.
